Alternative Agriculture Workshop Explores Opportunities for Iowa Producers
AMES, Iowa--An alternative agriculture workshop will be presented Jan. 24 at the McNay Research and Demonstration Farm. Iowa State University Extension is sponsoring this event to offer producers and agriculture professionals a chance to learn about the alternative agriculture research, products and opportunities.
"This workshop is for Iowa producers, including small landowners, who are interested in growing additional or alternative crops," said Kathleen Delate, ISU Extension organic specialist.
"Session topics will cover several aspects of raising and marketing alternative crops and livestock," said John Kennicker, ISU Extension crop field specialist. "When raising alternative crops, using the financial resources available along with marketing, are two key aspects to being profitable."
Featured topics include:
Livestock production and marketing
Alternative crops including Farm Service Agency rules and guidelines
Growing prairies
Community-supported agriculture and other marketing ideas
Fruit production
Specialty poultry
Opportunities for financial assistance
