Commercial Manure Applicator Training Scheduled for January 6, 2004
To help commercial manure applicators receive the three hours of annual continuing instruction required to maintain their manure applicator certification, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will conduct a Commercial Manure Applicator satellite downlink on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 from 9 am -12:30 pm. There is no fee for the workshop but it is recommended that you contact your county office to determine site locations and to register for the program.
Commercial manure applicators wishing to recertify and those wanting to certify for the first time should attend. The workshop will provide the required three hours of annual training and will cover applicator rules including new fees and program licensure of business and employees and new allowances for substitution of employees, manure spill response, safety issues, using manure management plans for application rates, and the Iowa Commercial Nutrient Applicator's Association.
All currently certified commercial manure applicator licenses will expire on Dec. 31, 2003. Those wanting to renew have until March 1, 2004 to renew and avoid paying the late fee for certification.
Commercial applicators are highly encouraged to attend the satellite downlink program due to the uncertainty of when videotapes will be available for training in late January and February.
Commercial manure applicators also may contact their local IDNR field office to schedule an appointment to take the certification exam to meet certification requirements. Applicators who want to take the exam may wish to access a copy of the study guide manual to help prepare for the exam. The study guide is now available at the following web address: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/pubs/PM1778/homepage.html.
If you have questions about the satellite downlink program, contact the local ISU Extension county office or on the Web at: http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/immag/mac.html.
