8/6/03 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contacts: USDA Food Safety Mobile to Visit Iowa State Fair AMES, Iows--The USDA Food Safety Mobile will be visiting the Iowa State Fair. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the brightly colored 35-foot, recreational-style vehicle will park in front of the 4-H Exhibits Building on August 14-17. "We invited it to stop in Iowa to help us reinforce the importance of handling food safely," said Dan Henroid, Iowa State University Extension specialist in hotel, restaurant, and institution management. "Everyone who handles food - by preparing or eating it- improves the safety factor of that food simply by washing his or her hands properly first." Henroid, other ISU Extension staff and members of the State of Iowa Food Safety Task Force will demonstrate safe food handling and thermometer usage and answer food safety questions. The Food Safety Mobile's visit is part of a country-wide tour and is a preview for ISU Extension's National Food Safety Education Month activities in September. -30- ml: imajor
