4/29/03 Contacts: Camp Registration Under Way at 4-H Center AMES, Iowa--New mattresses, fresh paint, new camps and old favorites--the 2003 summer season at the 4-H camping center in Boone County exhibits a spirit of renewal as the camp heads into its second fifty years. The camp's program director, Traci Stephens, calls the new summer program "awesome" and emphasizes that campers will "have fun meeting new friends, enjoying the outdoors and trying new camp activities." Stephens, a nine-year 4-H'er in Page County, is a camping enthusiast and quick to point out that "everyone is welcome" at the camping center, which does not limit participation to 4-H members. Stephens says new camps such as "You Can't Do That!" and "Invaders of the Darkness" will offer such unorthodox activities as staying up all night, eating ice cream for breakfast, and touring a radio station during moonlight hours. Campers attending "Camp Wanna-Quilt-A" and "Art-rageous" will "create things to take home and impress all their friends." Early registration ends May 15 and fees range from $80 to $260, depending
on materials and length of stay. A late fee of $15 to $30 will be charged
after May 15. -30- |
