ISU Extension Program Sponsors Space Week Science Challenge
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa students in grades kindergarten through 12 may participate
in the Space Week Science Challenge, Oct. 4 through 10. The challenge
is offered by the Iowa Space Grant Consortium (ISCG), WHO Radio and the
Earth and Sky radio program. The grand prize includes in-service training
from Iowa State University Extension-Science, Engineering, and Technology
(E-SET).
Classrooms of students will participate in the contest, which involves
listening to special Space Week editions of the Earth and Sky program
each day. The broadcasts also are available on the Internet. Each day
the classrooms will participate in activities on topics such as asteroid
imaging and the phases of the moon. Afterward, the classroom teachers
will administer quizzes and forward the results to the Iowa Space Grant
Consortium. Entries must be received by Oct. 18.
Groups of students from any Iowa school or organization may participate.
Home school students also may form a group to participate.
The winning classroom will receive a prize package including a trip to
the Science Station and IMAX Theater in Cedar Rapids, as well as the in-service
training by E-SET. The total prize package is worth as much as $5,000.
