9/12/02 Contacts: Got your Milk Cart Quiz? ALLEMAN, Iowa - Spin the wheel and test your dairy knowledge at the 2002 Farm Progress Show. Iowa State University's (ISU) "Milk Cart Quiz" offers a chance for everyone to learn more about the dairy industry. People of all ages can participate and answer by answering questions about dairy history, dairy cows, human nutrition and science. The display is located in the ISU exhibit on the west side of the Farm Progress Show exhibit field. The quiz is part of "Iowa's Dairy Story," an educational display from the Dairy Center in Calmar, Iowa. The Center is a collaboration of ISU, Northeast Iowa Community College and the Northeast Iowa Community Based Dairy Foundation. The Dairy Center offers curriculum and tours about the dairy industry to students in third, fourth and fifth grades as well as the general public. A typical tour includes dairy history, artifacts, the cow's digestive system, human nutrition, geography and the Hall of Breeds. The Hall of Breeds features life-size pictures of the seven dairy breeds and their characteristics. Visitors also can compete in the "Milk Cart Quiz," make ice cream and view the milking facilities. Those interested in the dairy industry can view the latest in state-of-the-art milking facilities. Agricultural specialists hold seminars about the dairy industry throughout the year at the Dairy Center.
