Iowa State University Extension Educational Products Display

Alleman, Iowa -- ISU Extension educational materials will be featured at a display at the 2002 Farm Progress Show near Alleman Sept. 24-26.

The Continuing Education and Communication Services display will feature educational publications, off-campus courses, conferences and offerings within the Academy of Outreach Institutes. The Academy of Outreach Institutes creates educational programs for businesses, industry and targeted clientele groups.

The featured outreach institute is the Advanced Grain Marketing course. Offered online through ISU, this course helps Midwest farmers learn tools and concepts to develop a grain marketing plan. A computer demonstration at the show will allow visitors to experience components of the course material as they would from their home or business while taking similar courses.

"The Advanced Grain Marketing course enables farmers to discover the financial benefits of developing marketing plans before the crop is planted," says Tim Eggers, ISU Extension farm management specialist. "With the online format, those taking the course can become involved at their own pace and time schedule, which is important for farmers that typically aren't able to attend traditional educational meetings."

This course is only one learning module in an Agricultural Management E-School (AMES) project that covers a range of agricultural management topics, all of which will be delivered online through the Academy of Outreach Institute.

ISU offers more than 100 college credit courses each semester via the World Wide Web, videotape, the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and sites away from campus. Thousands of publications are available online or in print and can be ordered through the Extension Distribution Center or your county Extension office.

The ISU exhibit will be located at the west end of the Farm Progress Show grounds.
