Iowa State University's Exhibit has Something for Everyone

ALLEMAN, Iowa - While at the 2002 Farm Progress Show, sample a soybean smoothie, have your blood pressure checked and share your favorite 4-H story, all at the Iowa State University (ISU) exhibit.

From gardening tips to value-added agriculture information, the ISU display will showcase a broad range of educational and research programs at the Farm Progress Show, set for Sept. 24-26 near Alleman, IA.

"Visitors to the ISU hoop building will see 16 displays featuring information and solutions to today's hot issues related to rural Iowa, families, agriculture, youth and communities. You can talk face-to-face with an ISU specialist and see what you can do to make a difference locally," according to Jerry DeWitt co-chair for the ISU Farm Progress Show exhibit.

The ISU auditorium will feature everything from musical entertainment to the latest discussions on composting swine mortalities to live radio broadcasts over WOI-AM radio.

"Farm Progress Show is an opportunity for those connected to agriculture to preview first hand some of the changing aspects of the agricultural environment," said Sherry Glenn, interim associate provost for extension and co-chair for the ISU Farm Progress Show exhibit.

Here are highlights of this year's ISU exhibit.

* Several displays are dedicated to value-added agriculture including: biorenewable resources, Iowa industries of the future, grain quality management and a look at opportunities for different types of farms.

* Swine producers can find out the latest on composting and biofilters at the Iowa Pork Industry Center display.
