Organic Expert and Author to Speak at Annual Iowa Organic Conference

AMES, Iowa - The Annual Iowa Organic Conference will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Conference Center. Eliot Coleman, an organic farmer and author from Maine who specializes in growing crops year round, will deliver the keynote address. Attendees will be able to attend three sessions. Topics for the sessions include:

Beginning organic farming
Adding value to organic products
Organic livestock production
Marketing organic produce and grains
Local food systems
GMO issues in organic agriculture
Organic greenhouse production
Organic research

The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m and includes an organic lunch prepared by Chef Robert Anderson and DMACC culinary arts students. In addition, there will be a trade show that runs throughout the day.

The cost is $60.00 for registrations paid and postmarked by Nov. 15 and $70 for on-site registrations or those postmarked Nov. 16 or later. The conference is sponsored by Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa State University Extension, DMACC, Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
