10/11/02 Contacts: Story County 4-H Supporter Wins Alumni Award AMES, Iowa -- Glen Mente, Ames, recently received the Iowa 4-H Alumni Award. The award honors 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers. "This is the highest recognition that can be awarded to a former 4-H'er," Florine Swanson, Iowa 4-H Foundation executive director, said. "Glen is an excellent candidate because he has helped so many young people become winners." Mente was a 4-H member in Clinton County and was a delegate to the National 4-H Congress. As an adult volunteer he served as a leader of the Bloomington Fair Winners 4-H Club. Mente has been a member of the Iowa 4-H Foundation for the past seven years and serves that organization as president. In addition to volunteering for 4-H, Mente has served on the Iowa State University (ISU) Foundation Board of Governors and is a past president of the ISU Alumni Association. Mente, an ISU graduate, spent most of his career with Kent Feeds in Muscatine, where he was vice president of research and development. He and his wife, Mary Jo, now live in Ames. They have two children and five grandchildren. -30- |
