Iowa community leaders is planned Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Iowa State University. Sponsors of the event include the Iowa Rural Development Council and Iowa State University's College of Agriculture, College of Design and Extension to Communities. Following his keynote address, Kotkin will join in a panel discussion led by Barbara Mack, ISU journalism professor. Other panelists are attorney Bob Josten and Marvin Berenstein of Vision Iowa. Breakout sessions are Coalitions and Corridors-Building Effective Partnerships, led by Chad Shyrock, executive director of the Southwest Iowa Coalition; Welcoming New Residents, led by Linda Albright of Henry County and Mark Grey of the University of Northern Iowa; and Collaborative Problem Solving, led by Scarlett Lunning of Iowa Mediation Services. Other breakout sessions include Successful Models of Downtown Redevelopment, led by Dave Heiar and Marie Steenlage of Manchester; a Step by Step Guide to Joint Government Purchasing led by Doug Elliott of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments; Successful Models of Coalition Building, led by Buck Boekelman, treasurer of the Highway 20 Corridor Association; Creating Change by Investing Locally, led by Rand Fisher of the Iowa Area Development Group and Maxine Moul of the Nebraska Community Foundation; and How Communities Can Focus their Development Efforts to Target Industries, led by Jeff Rossate of the Iowa Department of Economic Development, Drew Conrad of the University of Northern Iowa, and Joe Raso of the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids Technology Center. Jerry Van Der Kamp of West Des Moines, president of AGRI Industries and
winner of the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Excellence Award, will
be a guest at the workshop luncheon. He will be introduced by Paul Lasley,
