ISU Extension Staff Honored at Awards Convocation

The awards were presented by Stanley R. Johnson, vice provost for extension, during a special convocation at the annual conference. The recipients were honored at a luncheon following the convocation.

Individual Awards

4-H Youth Director's Award - This award recognizes a professional staff member for outstanding programming in 4-H. One staff member received this award which includes a cash stipend.

County Extension Education Director Excellence Award - This award is given for sustained distinguished performance and educational contributions to ISU and clientele by a county extension education director. One staff member received this award which includes a cash stipend.

Diversity Achievement Award - This award is given for outstanding achievement in teaching that increases client awareness of the value of diversity; involving people of diverse backgrounds in extension decision-making bodies and programs; or providing effective educational efforts to diverse audiences. One staff member received this award.

Excellence in Agricultural Extension Programs Award - This award is given in two categories, one for a crops specialist and one for a livestock specialist. One staff member received an award in each category, which includes a cash stipend.

ISU Extension New Professional Award - This award is given to recognize extension staff with less than five years of service, who have made significant contributions toward achieving the goals of ISU Extension. Five staff members received this award.

Lloyd E. Anderson Superior Service to Industry Award - This award is named in honor of the retired director of the Center for Industrial Research and Service and is presented to a CIRAS staff member who has established a level of excellence in service to Iowa industry. One staff member received this award, which includes a cash stipend.

Margaret K. Yoder Extension to Families New Professional Award - This award is named for a former assistant state leader of Extension to Families and is presented to an extension to families professional staff member with less than five years of service to recognize outstanding programming. One staff member received this award, which includes a cash stipend.

Meritorious Service Award - This award is given for meritorious achievements and educational contributions to clientele through dedication to duty and significant contributions to the mission of ISU Extension over time. Six staff members received this award.

Outstanding Achievement by an Individual Award - This award recognizes a single outstanding effort by an individual, carried out with much originality or creativity. Four staff members received this award.

Pride of Extension Award - This award is given to recognize an innovative project or effort to meet extension client needs and consistently strong office or program management skills. Eight staff members received this award.

Project Family Partnership Award - This award is given to recognize exemplary work on the part of field staff that contributes significantly to Project Family at the Institute for Social and Behavioral Research. One staff member received this award, which includes a cash stipend.


Team Awards

Team Awards for Educational Achievement - These awards are given to recognize a team effort in educational programming carried out with much originality or creativity. Six educational team awards were presented.

2002 Farm Bill Education Team, recognized for a massive educational effort on the 2002 Farm Security and Rural Investment Act.

Educational Partners - Agriculture and Kids Team, recognized for educational field trips for elementary school students in Emmet, Palo Alto and Kossuth Counties.

Iowa Industries of the Future Agriculture Core Team, recognized for its work on the Iowa bioeconomy, and a biobased products and bioenergy symposium.

Kossuth County Speak Up! Team, recognized for implementing a public speaking course for fifth grade students.

Team Awards for Organizational Achievement - These awards are given to recognize a team effort to improve the operation of the extension organization. Two organizational team awards were presented.

County Accounting Project Team, recognized for creating a new accounting system for county extension offices.

Revenue Generation Expansion for ISU Extension Team, recognized for its work to develop a new cost recovery component for extension funding.

Special Citations from ISU Extension - These awards are given to recognize support from external partners in the presentation of ISU Extension educational programs. Two teams that included ISU Extension staff and external partners were recognized.

2002 Farm Bill Education Team, recognized for cooperative effort to disseminate information on the 2002 Farm Bill.

In Tune With Agriculture Team, recognized for joint program to provide agricultural-based training to 5,000 John Deere employees.
