Iowa Pork Producers Invited to Learn about New Insurance Options
AMES, Iowa -- With the advent of revenue and risk insurance pilot programs,
Iowa pork producers have a new tool in their risk management arsenal.
Producers and others associated with the pork industry are invited to
learn more about insurance options at an Iowa Communications Network (ICN)
program June 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. The program is sponsored by Iowa
Pork Industry Center and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension.
According to program coordinator Terry Steinhart, four speakers will
provide information on the two specific insurance programs, Livestock
Gross Margin (LGM) and Livestock Risk Protection (LRP,) including reasons
for the insurance, potential benefits from using the programs, an analysis
of the programs and some timely market analysis.
Steinhart, who also is an ISU Extension swine specialist, said the program format is strictly informational in nature, and there will be no sales pitches for either insurance option during the program. There will be time for questions and answers following the four speakers.
“ISU economist William Edwards will present background and a general
introduction to the two programs including a comparison of the features,”
Steinhart said. “Ed Kordick with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation
will review the Livestock Gross Margin Insurance, and a representative
from the American Agribusiness Insurance Company will explain the Livestock
Risk Protection program. ISU economist John Lawrence will analyze the
two options and current market conditions.”
Program fee is $10 per person. Check with local ISU Extension county offices for possible preregistration and prepayment requirements.
