5/21/02 Contacts: White to Serve as 4-H Representative to Germany AMES, Iowa -- Former Davis County 4-H member Steven White, Bloomfield, will spend six months in Germany as an International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) representative. White, who is majoring in biosystems engineering at Iowa State University, will leave for Germany June 20. He will live with six host families, participating in day-to-day family life and interacting with German 4-H clubs. "The IFYE program enables young people to improve their leadership and communication skills, while increasing their international awareness and understanding," said Brenda Allen, IFYE Coordinator for Iowa 4-H Youth Development. The program also is designed to enhance the 4-H program. An eight-year 4-H member, White has served on the Davis County 4-H Youth Committee and the state 4-H council and was a delegate to the National 4-H Conference. He also participated in the Collegiate 4-H Club at Iowa State University. IFYE representatives must be 4-H alumni between the ages of 19 and 30. Applications for the 2003 program are due Jan. 1.
