5/16/02 Contacts: Upcoming Training on Compressed Air Systems to Demonstrate Industrial Energy Savings Cedar Rapids, IA -- Each year U.S. companies miss the opportunity to capture large amounts of lost energy that is paid for but doesn't contribute to production. By improving the efficiency and operation of compressed air systems, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that, nationally, 18 to 45 billion kilowatt-hours per year could be recovered. To help companies, the Compressed Air Challenge has developed training that takes a comprehensive look at compressed air systems and delivers an action plan to make the system more energy efficient. The national training is designed to help facility plant engineers and maintenance supervisors, equipment distributors, and engineering consultants find cost-effective solutions to pressing, everyday operational problems. According to U.S. Department of Energy findings, 75% of participants attending this training made improvements to their compressed air systems within one year. This two-part program is held back-to-back over three days. The first course, Fundamentals of Compressed Air Systems, is a one-day course. The second course, Advanced Management of Compressed Air Systems, is two-days long. This training is offered by the Iowa Energy Center at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids on June 4-6. Participants will learn: The training costs $295 for the fundamentals course, $595 for the advanced course, or $800 for both courses. For detailed information on the courses, including how to register, visit the Iowa State University Continuing Education Web site, www.lifelearner.iastate.edu, or call (800) 262-0015. The Compressed Air Challenge(R) is a voluntary collaboration of industrial users; manufacturers, distributors and their associations; facility operating personnel and their associations; energy efficiency organizations, and utilities. -30- ml: state |
