State 4-H Horse Judging Contest Winners Announced
AMES, Iowa -- Sixty Iowa 4-H'ers spent June 11 judging horses at the
Iowa Equestrian Center at Kirkwood Community College. Several winners
of the 4-H Youth Horse Judging Contest will represent Iowa at the 2003
Denver Horse Classic in January.
The Horse Judging Contest features six classes -- three halter classes
and three performance classes. The judging contest gives youth an opportunity
to demonstrate equine knowledge by placing four horses in correct order.
The contest was open to both junior and senior 4-H'ers.
The 2002 Top Senior Judging Team, which will represent Iowa at the Denver
Horse Classic, includes Madison County's Klaire O'Rourke, Jessica Brott,
Deanne Day and Tiffany Garrett. They are coached by Lori Day.
The Story County Team, coached by Tesa Jordan and Amanda Honnold, placed
second. Team members are Emily Cummins, Angela Fulk, Jane Holmes, and
Brooke Huls.
The winning teams received trophies from the Iowa Horse Council.
