6/19/02 Contacts: Nonprofit Management Institute Teaches Vital Skills AMES, Iowa - The third nonprofit management institute in Des Moines, sponsored by Iowa State University and United Way of Central Iowa, begins July 16. Institute topics include diversity management, legal issues, grant writing, fund-raising, financial management, marketing, volunteer recruitment, plus others. The institute is designed to enhance the skills of those serving the nonprofit sector. Since its inception in 1999, the nonprofit management institute has served individuals from nonprofit agencies, government, education agencies and corporations. Participants have traveled from as far as Omaha, Grinnell, and Iowa City to participate in the institute in Des Moines. Ann Wolf, Executive Director of the Simon Estes Iowa Educational Foundation, is working towards certification in the program. "I will receive my certification from Iowa State University soon, and I'm excited about that. I needed to acquaint myself with the entrepreneurial aspects of nonprofit management, and was pleased to find a program created through Iowa State University," Wolf said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed every class I've taken." The July course, Diversity Management for Nonprofit Organizations, focuses on the new reality of diversity. Today, diversity is more than trends and cultural diversity. It is fears and barriers to racial and ethnic differences, and moves beyond stereotyping to inclusion vs. tolerance. Participants may enroll in individual courses, or select a combination
of classes totaling eight Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to earn a
certificate. Individual courses cost $55, with a reduced fee of $50 per
course if a participant registers for the entire certification program.
