Specialized 4-H Camps Geared Toward First-Time Campers

AMES, Iowa -- Sometimes the best way to try a new experience is to ease into it. With that in mind, 2002 Discover Your World 4-H Camp offers sessions geared to young and first-time campers.

Bring a Big Person Camp, June 16 to 18, invites youth between the ages of 6 and 9 to bring an adult over the age of 18. Together, each pair shares the fun of camping.

Discovery Camp, June 30 to July 3, is tailored to 8- to 10-year-olds attending camp alone for the first time. Shorter in duration than most of the camping sessions, Discovery Camp still offers a taste of the entire camping experience.

These two are among the many 4-H summer camp tracks offered at the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center near Madrid. The center is accredited by the American Camping Association. Iowa State University Extension staff members conduct the sessions with the help of professionals and students.

For detailed information about these and other camp sessions as well as registration, contact the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center, 1991 Peach Ave., Madrid, Iowa 50156; phone (515) 795-3338 or e-mail ia4hctr@iastate.edu.
