7/16/02 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contacts: See What's Growing in the ISU Research Gardens AMES, IA -- Iowa State University (ISU) Extension specialists and farm superintendents invite you to the 2002 Field Days at nine of the university's research and demonstration farms. These free events give researchers an opportunity to share with gardeners what they have learned growing a variety of vegetables and flowers this year. The vegetable patch is full of "babies" this year. Miniature
versions of tomatoes, eggplant, corn, beets, carrots, pumpkins, melons,
peppers and cucumbers will be on display. In another part of the garden
several varieties of pole beans, including heirlooms, are climbing supports. In the flower beds there are zinnias of every size and color. Some of the other flowerbeds are tropical paradises. Canna, Calla Lily, Elephant Ear, Four O'clock, Cuphea, Hibiscus, Castor Bean, Angelica and Datura flowers are putting on quite an exotic show. The dates and times for each field day are listed below. To get addresses and driving directions to the research farms, visit the ISU Research Farms Web site at http://www.ag.iastate.edu/farms/ or contact your local ISU Extension county office.
