Pork Producers Invited to New Production Technology Discussions

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Today's pork producers find themselves confronted with new production-related decisions almost daily. Iowa State University Extension will sponsor a series of round table discussions focused on Paylean® and phytase technologies. Participants at each of the 12 workshops will receive information on these technologies and will be encouraged to share information and personal observations with others.

"As producers listen to current research results and hear about other producer experiences, the fit of the technology to each particular situation will become clearer," said Dave Stender, ISUE swine specialist. In addition to Stender, ISU swine specialist Palmer Holden, ISUE swine specialist Jerry Weiss and ISUE livestock specialist Dennis DeWitt will provide background information to swine producers.

"The bottom line of applying these technologies is usually determined by the payback in each situation," Stender said. "We plan to go through some cost and return information and review the calculations that need to be made to determine if the technology pays in different situations."

Participants are asked to bring on-farm observations and data from their own experiences to share, helping provide accurate comparisons between on farm use and research trials.

Each workshop will last about two hours. There is a $10 registration fee to cover expenses, payable at the door. Workshop dates, times and locations follow:
