2/18/02 Contacts: Dads -- Do Things with Your Kids AMES, Iowa -- "Kids and dads learn more about each other when they do things together," says Kristi Cooper, family life field specialist, Iowa State University Extension. "Children benefit when fathers teach skills, model values and keep lines of communication open while talking, working and playing with their children." According to a 2000 Iowa survey of 200 children ages 3-19, kids said their favorite things to do with dad or grandpa were fishing, riding things together (bicycles, motorcycles, cars, horses, etc), fixing things and playing sports. & My Dad" Web site www.extension.iastate.edu/dads/know.html. -30- ml: idailies |
