Pork Regional Conferences will Focus on Finishing Management

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa pork producers are invited to learn more about finishing management techniques at one of the 2002 Iowa Pork Regional Conferences scheduled for later this month. Iowa Pork Industry Center at Iowa State University, Iowa Pork Producers Association and ISU Extension are cosponsoring the series of five meetings at different sites around the state. The series runs from Feb. 18- Feb. 22 running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at each site. Fee is $20 per person for those preregistered or people may register at the door for $25 each. All fees are payable at the door. The noon meal is guaranteed for those preregistered.

Some of the speakers and their topics for these programs are Mike Brumm from the University of Nebraska, “Feeder/waterer designs” and “New finishing technologies;” Joel DeRouchey from Kansas State University, “Feed additives for wean to finish” and “Post-weaning nutrition news;” and Sue Martin, “Risk Management Strategies.” ISU Extension field specialists will demonstrate “Group Tracker” software at each site, and additional topics will be included in agendas at selected sites.

“This series of seminar will provide the latest information in several areas for pork producers involved in finishing operations,” said IPIC director John Mabry. “We’re pleased to be cosponsoring the programs with IPPA and hope to see many producers at these five sites.”
