Workshop Explains Marketing Specialty Farm Products on the Web

AMES, Iowa -- “Marketing Your Specialty Farm Product on the Web” is a workshop for specialty farm producers and entrepreneurs who are interested in e-business and in developing Web sites to market their products. Agency and organization staff who work with specialty producers also are invited to this one-day workshop at Iowa State University (ISU).

Workshops are set for Feb. 27, March 19, April 24 and May 29. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants per class. The registration fee for the workshop is $100 per participant and covers the cost of the workshop, materials and lunch.

“The workshop will lead producers through market research, work through the costs associated with an e-business site, and help them gain the knowledge they need for a successful e-business site,” said Stan Johnson, vice provost for ISU Extension.

Information also will be presented on using the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s Farmers’ Market Online (http://www.iowafarmbureau.com) to develop and market specialty farm product Web sites.

“ISU Extension is pleased to offer this workshop in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation,” Johnson said.

ISU Extension’s Value-Added Agriculture Program will present information on trends in specialty products and current e-business research.

The workshop will be taught in an ISU computer lab, said Jeanne Wiebke, a system support specialist with ISU Extension Information Technology. Participants should have basic computer skills, including keyboarding and mouse skills, and be able to use an Internet browser.

For registration information, contact Wiebke at (515) 294-8658 or jwiebke@iastate.edu, or check the Web site, http://www.extension.iastate.edu/ebusiness/.
