Media Advisory: ISU Economist to Report Farmland Values on Dec. 18

AMES, Iowa -- A news conference to announce the results of the 2002 Iowa Farmland Value Survey conducted at Iowa State University is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Michael Duffy, ISU Extension economist who directs the survey, will announce the 2002 findings at the news conference. He also will be available after the news conference for phone interviews at (515) 294-3000. Duffy said a preliminary review of the data indicates more variation in changes in land values across the state than has occurred since the early 1980s.

The news conference will be in Room 179 of the Scheman Continuing Education Building, just west of Hilton Coliseum at the Iowa State Center. Parking is available on the north side of the Scheman Building.

A printed news release with data from all 99 counties and state maps will be available. Duffy also will have background material. A mult-box will be available for media representatives who want to tape the news conference.

Land value survey information from the 1994-2001 news conferences is available on ISU Extension's Web site at http://www.extension.iastate.edu under the publications link. The site also has a link to yearly data back to 1950. The 2002 information will be posted on Dec. 18.

A news release on the 2002 survey results and a table with data for all 99 Iowa counties will be released to the media through The Link at 10 a.m. Dec. 18.
