Johnson County 4-H Supporter Honored

AMES, Iowa -- Diana Cox, Iowa City, received a State 4-H Alumni Award Aug. 24 in Ames. The award honors former 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers.

"This is one of the highest honors given to former 4-H members who have continued to provide a significant contribution to Iowa's Extension 4-H Youth Programs in their adult lives," Chuck Morris, associate director of 4-H youth programs at Iowa State University, said.

Cox was a nine-year 4-H member in Washington County and has been a volunteer leader of the Sharon Center Sensations 4-H Club for the past 12 years. This summer she worked with 4-H club members to develop a 4-H history quiz and clover-shaped maze for hundreds of visitors at the 4-H pancake breakfast. She also is a member of the Johnson County Youth Development Committee, a frequent presenter at the Hills Bank 4-H Leadership Conference, and Johnson County fair superintendent for a variety of projects.

In the fall of 2001, Cox was one of three chairpersons of the North Central Volunteer Leader's Forum, a 4-H volunteer development conference held in Des Moines. She also has been the chair or active committee member for planning State 4-H Leader Retreat on several occasions.

Cox and her husband, Ralph, are the parents of two children, Robert and Teresa.
