Page County 4-H Supporter Honored

AMES, Iowa – Janelle Stephens, Clarinda, received a State 4-H Alumni Recognition Aug. 25 in Ames. The award honors former 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers.

Stephens is a para-professional in K-4 special education. She also has worked as a licensed practical nurse and a daycare provider.
Stephens was an eight-year 4-H member in Page County and has been a volunteer leader of the Clarinda Classic 4-H Club for the past thirteen years. Each year the club holds a winter camp and leadership retreats for the older 4-H'ers. She also has volunteered with a 4-H and youth rabbit club and as a chaperone to the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

She also has served on the Page County Youth Committee and the recent 100 year 4-H Celebration committee. She was a delegate to the 2000 National 4-H Conference and currently serves as co-chair of the program committee for the North Central Regional Volunteer Forum to be held in Des Moines in November.

In her community, Stephens works with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, is active in her church and has helped with the REACH leadership and "Healthy Youth, Healthy Communities" programs for youth in the community and school.

Stephens and her husband, Howard, are the parents of three children, Traci, David and Emily. All have been members of the Clarinda Classics 4-H Club.
