9/17/01 Contacts: Longtime Dallas County 4-H Volunteers Honored AMES, Iowa -- Glenn and Bev Rowe, Lorimor, and formerly of Minburn in Dallas County, received the Iowa 4-H Alumni Award. The award honors 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers. Glenn was a youth member in Dallas County and Bev was a member in Cherokee County. Glenn has volunteered for the Iowa State Fair 4-H Horse show for 32 years, and Bev has volunteered for 29 years. When their children were involved in 4-H, they served as club leaders, senior 4-H group leaders and horse project leaders. They also chaperoned senior 4-H trips and served as horse show superintendents. In addition they served on the Dallas County Extension Council. "They just love to volunteer," said their son Tanner. In addition to their involvement in 4-H, Glenn has served as president of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and Bev has held offices in the Cowbelles organization. "It is very important to eat lunch on the Fairgrounds at the Cattlemen's Beef Quarters," Glenn said. The Rowes have served on the 4-H State Equine Endowment Committee, and Glenn served six years on the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Directors. They are members of the state 4-H 4000 donor program. -30- af |
