10/31/01 Contacts: Fayette County 4-H'er Participates in Canadian 4-H Conference Brenda Meyers of Fayette County has been selected as one of six delegates to represent the United States at the Canadian 4-H Conference from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. Meyers is the daughter of Kathleen Meyers of West Union. U.S. delegates to the Canadian 4-H Conference were selected by applying to the U. S. Department of Agriculture. They were chosen for their leadership and achievement in the 4-H program. Canada's 4-H Conference is an annual event similar to the National 4-H Conference held in the United States. Delegates participate in one of six issues work groups, take part in a visioning workshop and attend the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Meyers, an eight-year 4-H member, has served on the county, area and state 4-H councils and the Fayette County 4-H youth committee. She has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus. Meyers completed several projects including swine, photography, food and nutrition, leadership, visual arts, home improvement and citizenship. She served as president of her local 4-H club. "Without 4-H I would not have developed into the leader I am today," Meyers said. "4-H has helped me become a better volunteer for my community and has showen me how to stand up for my ideas. Every day I strive to be a good role model in the eyes of others and to be a good leader in my school, community, county and state." Meyers is a freshman at Iowa State University in Ames, majoring in agricultural business. For more information about 4-H contact the Iowa State University Extension office in your county. -30- af |
