10/15/01 Contacts: Master Woodland Managers Complete Course Twenty-six east central and southeast Iowa residents have recently completed the Master Woodland Managers Program that was offered in the Iowa City-Washington-Wapello area. This educational program involves 32 hours of intensive forestry instruction designed specifically for woodland owners or managers, public land managers and natural resource consultants. Course instruction focuses on various aspects of woodland management including tree and shrub identification, basic tree biology, forest ecology, land and tree measurements, protection from insects and diseases, tree planting, wildlife management, timber economics and marketing, and wood use. The Master Woodland Managers Program is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension, ISU Forestry Extension, the Forestry Division of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Tree Farm Committee and the Iowa Woodland Owners Association. To date, 663 individuals have graduated from this program since it started in 1988, and almost 17,000 public service hours have been contributed.
