County Youth Swine Shows are Focus of ICN Program
AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa Pork Industry Center will sponsor a round table
presentation and discussion on organizing and holding a successful youth
county fair swine show on Dec. 13. This discussion will be available via
the Iowa Communications Network at more than 40 sites around Iowa. The
origination site for this program is 1483 Vet Med on the ISU south campus.
Presenters will speak on their respective topics for eight to 10 minutes
each, followed by questions from the audience. Some of the program topics
are philosophy and show ring ethics, biosecurity and health issues, derby
show organization and marketing and auctions. Both general and specific
questions are encouraged, as is discussion at the local site level.
Anyone with an interest in youth county fair swine shows is invited to
attend, especially county fair swine superintendents, county fair officials,
4-H swine project leaders, FFA advisors and 4-H and FFA parents.
ISU Extension swine field specialist Larry McMullen coordinated the program,
which will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Program fee is $10 per person. Check with local ISU Extension county offices
for possible preregistration and prepayment requirements. Those wishing
to attend the program at the origination site must preregister by Dec.
