11/6/01 Contact: Second Tri-State Forestry Conference Scheduled Southeastern Iowa forest landowners interested in learning how to better manage their forested land are encouraged to attend the Second Annual Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Grand Theatre in Keokuk. The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. "Studies indicate that most landowners have more than one objective for their woodland acreage and often the primary objective is not timber management," said Paul Wray, Iowa State University Extension forester. "This conference has been designed with this thought in mind." Because of landowners' diverse interests, the conference offers a variety of programs that are designed to help make them better stewards of the natural resources found on their property. The conference agenda includes the following programs: Crop Tree Management/Timber Stand Improvement (TSI)/Vegetation Control
in TSI The conference registration fee is $35 per person or $60 for couples and includes a continental breakfast and a luncheon. Landowners interested in attending the conference must register by Jan. 3. Walk-in registration will not be permitted. A conference brochure, which includes a registration form, is available at county Extension, Soil and Water Conservation District, and Natural Resource Conservation Service offices, District Foresters, Iowa DNR offices or by writing or calling Paul H.
