11/5/01 Contacts: 4-H Volunteers Meet at Forum More than 500 4-H volunteers representing 12 Midwestern states and Canada will be at the Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn Nov 8-12 for the North Central Region Volunteer Forum. The volunteers, both adult and youth, represent community-based providers of youth development and out-of-school programming. "From infancy through youth to adulthood, morning to night, and in schools, families and communities, young people need supportive learning environments," said forum advisor, Chuck Morris, associate director of the 4-H Youth Programs with Iowa State University. "The volunteer forum brings new energy to creating richer opportunities for learning in our communities." From extracting DNA from food, to credit card management, to balancing life's challenges, forum attendees will have hands-on learning in over 60 workshops. Approximately half of the conference attendees will represent Iowa's rural and urban communities. The remaining representatives come from across the Midwest and two Canadian providences. For more information about the North Central Region Volunteer Forum, contact your county Iowa State University Extension office or visit the Web site: www.extension.iastate.edu/4H/NCRVF. -30- |
