Clinton County Family Hosts 4-H'er from Switzerland

AMES, Iowa -- Sabine Grob, a student from Switzerland, will visit Grand Mound from July 25 through August 19 as a part of the International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) Representative program. Grob is staying with Mary and Paul Ketelesen and their two children Christina, 16, and Carl, 12.

Grob, 24, arrived in Iowa July 2. She will visit three families between now and Sept. 8. She also will stay with host families in Jasper and Howard counties.

IFYE program participants visit the United States from Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa to live and work with several host families for three to six months. Participants take part in the host families' daily life and interact with host organizations, which are similar to 4-H.

"We feel this program is important because of the opportunities it provides Iowa families to learn about another culture," said Brenda Allen, state program 4-H specialist. "You also learn more about yourself when you share your culture with others."

For more information about IFYE and future host opportunities, contact your county extension office or Brenda Allen at the state ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development office at (515) 294-1567.
