Poweshiek County Family Hosts 4-H'er from Costa Rica
AMES, Iowa -- Eduardo Garcia, a student from Costa Rica, will visit Montezuma from July 25 through August 12 as a part of the International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) Representative program. Garcia is staying with Roger and Nancy Allen.
Garcia, 20, arrived in Iowa July 2. He will visit three families between now and Sept. 8. He also will stay with host families in Floyd and Story counties.
IFYE program participants visit the United States from Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa to live and work with several host families for three to six months. Participants take part in the host families' daily life and interact with host organizations, which are similar to 4-H.
"We feel this program is important because of the opportunities it provides Iowa families to learn about another culture," said Brenda Allen, state program 4-H specialist. "You also learn more about yourself when you share your culture with others."
