7/16/01 Contacts: Pochahontas County Family Hosts 4-H'er from France AMES, Iowa - Edouard Vie, a student from France, will visit Albert City from August 10 through September 5 as a part of the International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) Representative program. Vie is staying with Lynn and Jeri Wenell and their three children Lewis, 13, Reuben, 11, and Brice, 8. Vie, 18, arrived in Iowa July 16. He will visit two families between now and Sept. 8. He has previously stayed with a host family in Page county. IFYE program participants visit the United States from Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa to live and work with several host families for three to six months. Participants take part in the host families' daily life and interact with host organizations, which are similar to 4-H. "We feel this program is important because of the opportunities it provides Iowa families to learn about another culture," said Brenda Allen, state program 4-H specialist. "You also learn more about yourself when you share your culture with others." For more information about IFYE and future host opportunities, contact your county extension office or Brenda Allen at the state ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development office at (515) 294-1567.
