Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open Planned

AMES, Iowa -- The 2001 Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open will be held Aug. 4 in Ames. The four-person, best shot tournament begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. with a reception, dinner and auction to follow. The tournament will be held at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames. All other activities will be at the Farm Bureau Livestock Pavilion at Kildee Hall on the Iowa State University camps.

Last year the Iowa Pork Producers Association agreed to combine their annual Pork Chop Open with the Lauren Christian Golf Outing so as to feature one golf event in the summer and to help raise funds for the Lauren Christian Endowment. The endowment honors Christian's extensive work in pork genetics and production, and provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate students and continued swine and pork educational opportunities.

Cost for the tournament, reception and dinner is $240 per four-person team, or $60 per person. A limited number of teams can be accommodated. Registrations will be accepted in the order of date received. Cost for the dinner and reception only is $30 per person. Registrations are due July 27, 2001. An online registration form (in pdf format) is available at this URL http://www.extension.iastate.edu/ipic/events/lcpco.pdf. Download the form, print and complete it, and send with your check to the address listed on the form.
