Wakonda to Host Fifth Annual 4-H Golf Tournament
AMES, Iowa -- "Going for the Green," a golf benefit held by the Iowa 4-H Foundation, tees off July 23 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines. Hagie Manufacturing, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Jacobson Companies, John Deere, Monsanto/Corn States Hybrid Service and Pioneer Hi-Bred International are sponsoring the fifth annual event.
The tournament is an 18-hole best-shot scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Prizes include a John Deere lawn tractor or a new golf cart to a hole-in-one shooter. Other hole contests are planned with more than $1,300 in prizes awarded to individuals and low-scoring foursomes.
Tournament activities include a pre-tournament golf clinic sponsored by the Iowa State University golf teams, an evening social, dinner and live auction. Participants can bid on autographed sports memorabilia, hunting trips and golf packages from popular Iowa courses.
The entry fee is $250 per person. One-half of the fee is a charitable contribution to the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Proceeds benefit Iowa 4-H'ers through foundation grants, scholarships and financial assistance programs.
Team and individual registrations are now being accepted. Tournament information is available from each Iowa State University county extension office or by calling the Iowa 4-H Foundation at (515) 294-1537.
