1/16/01 Contacts: Story County 4-H'ers Compete In National Livestock Judging Contest Four Story County 4-H'ers competed at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest at the American Royal in Kansas City in November. The team earned the right to compete at the Royal after placing third at the state livestock judging contest. The team members, Lissa Amundson, Ryan Mortvedt, Kaye Strohbehn and Michelle Wirth, were coached by Joel Morrical and Ben Engler. The competition consisted of placing classes of the different livestock breeds and giving oral reasons about their placings. "These senior-age 4-H members have developed life skills by participating in the livestock judging experience," said JoAnn Blanchard, extension 4-H coordinator for Story County. "Giving reasons in the contest has helped develop their communication and decision making skills." The trip was sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation Animal Science Endowment, Vigortone Feeds and Swift. eh |
