2/14/01 Contacts: 4-H Members Compete At National Livestock Judging Contest AMES, Iowa -- 4-H members from Scott County recently competed in the National Western Invitational 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, January 4 through 7 in Denver. The team, which placed 14th out of 27 teams, included Jon Sievers, Trent Claussen and Adam Baetke. Mike Holst served as the coach. Participants in the livestock judging contest judged classes of beef, sheep, swine and horses. "Team members had to give oral reasons on five of the classes where they evaluated the animals," Schwab said. "Oral reasons were scored on the 4-Her's accuracy in their placings and their ability to communicate their ideas." The Scott County team was selected to represent Iowa in Denver when they won the state competition. The January trip was sponsored by the Livestock Endowment Fund and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
