2/14/01 Contacts: 4-H Members Compete In National Horse Classic Event AMES, Iowa -- Several Iowa 4-H members competed at the National 4-H Horse Classic-Western Division last month in Denver. Four teams placed sixth or better in various competitions. "The 4-H teams that participated this year did an excellent job," said Denise Schwab, extension 4-H specialist. "As a state, we had great involvement and leadership represented in all areas." Cherokee County placed fourth in the hippology contest, Hamilton County placed sixth in the horse quiz bowl, Webster County placed fourth overall in the horse judging contest and Van Buren County placed fifth in the horse team demonstration event. Teams from Franklin and Taylor counties also traveled to Denver. Each of the teams qualified to participate by winning at the state level, Schwab said. The January trip was sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Equine Endowment Fund and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
