2/13/01 Contacts: Specialty Grain Supply Network Membership Meetings AMES, Iowa -- Innovative Growers, a specialty grain supply network, will hold two membership meetings in eastern Iowa on Feb. 20. Innovative Growers is a farmer-owned company designed to produce specialty grains for end users. The mission of Innovative Growers is to increase farmer-members' profitability by building long-term business relationships with seed companies, processors, end users and others, according to Jim Jensen, Iowa State University Extension crops field specialist. Membership meetings will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Farm Bureau Building in Eldridge from 9 to 11 a.m. and at Kirkwood Community College, Washington Hall room 3, in Cedar Rapids from 2 to 4 p.m. Assisted by Iowa State University Extension and the Iowa Grain Quality Initiative at ISU, Innovative Growers' vision is to become a preferred supplier for the high-value specialty grains that users will need in the future. Innovative Growers will develop sophisticated certification and information programs to support the commercial production of next-generation consumer biotech grains.
