A well-chosen robe can make an excellent Valentine's Day gift that is not only from the heart, but practical as well, says a textiles and clothing specialist from Iowa State University Extension. When shopping for that "special someone," specialist Janis Stone suggests to consider these points: Velour fabrics with a smooth, slick inner surface may not feel as warm as the soft pile outside suggests. Nylon knit from quilted fabrics may be more likely than cotton fabrics to let fiberfill slip through, causing unattractive fuzz balls on the surface. Test the seams of acrylic pile robes against your arm to be sure they aren't too scratchy. Check chenille fabrics to make sure tufts don't pull out easily.
