Need a Valentine's Day Gift Idea?

A well-chosen robe can make an excellent Valentine's Day gift that is not only from the heart, but practical as well, says a textiles and clothing specialist from Iowa State University Extension.

When shopping for that "special someone," specialist Janis Stone suggests to consider these points:

  • Velour fabrics with a smooth, slick inner surface may not feel as warm as the soft pile outside suggests.
  • Nylon knit from quilted fabrics may be more likely than cotton fabrics to let fiberfill slip through, causing unattractive fuzz balls on the surface.
  • Test the seams of acrylic pile robes against your arm to be sure they aren't too scratchy.
  • Check chenille fabrics to make sure tufts don't pull out easily.
