2/5/01 Contacts: Feedlot Meeting Addresses Environmental Issues SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Proposed regulations released by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency are going to have a profound effect on the way feedlot operators manage their businesses. Some of the proposed regulations involve redefining the size of concentrated animal feeding operations, changing the evaluation criteria for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, developing a site-specific permit nutrient management plan, initial environmental audits and using a phosphorous index to determine manure application rates. A Feedlot Environmental Quality meeting is set to help producers learn about the proposed regulations pertaining to open feedlots from 7 to10 p.m., Feb. 21, at the Dordt College Science Building 101 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
