Two Statewide 4-H Horse Leader Trainings Scheduled

AMES, Iowa--Two statewide trainings for 4-H horse project leaders will be offered in 2002 via the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) by Iowa State University Extension 4-H staff. The trainings begin at 7 p.m Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Monday, March 25.

The Jan. 30 program will focus on upcoming opportunities for 4-H’ers and horse health and management. Dr. Joan Howard, ISU veterinarian, will provide information on vaccinations and de-worming programs for horses, and Peggy Miller, ISU animal science associate professor, will provide information on what to look for when buying a horse.

The agenda for March 25 will be include information on horse hoof care, safety around horses, horse behavior, and 4-H horse judging teams.

No charge will be made for the trainings, but pre-registration is required, in order to prepare and distribute information packets for each site. Participants must register by Jan. 14 to the state 4-H office. Contact the local county Extension Office for registration information.

Confirmed ICN locations in Iowa include: Alta High School, Alta; Scheman Building, Ames; Audubon National Guard, Audubon; Cascade High School, Cascade; Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids; Earlham High School, Earlham; Prairie Valley High School, Gowrie; Hudson Public Library Hudson; Laurens Marathon High School, Laurens; Lewis - Wallace Research Farm, Lewis; Muscatine High School, Muscatine; Osceola Public Library, Osceola; Ottumwa - AEA first session and High School the second session, Ottumwa; Postville Middle School, Postville, Northwest Community College, Sheldon; Ventura High School, Ventura; Ar-We-Va High School, Westside.
