12/6/01 Contacts: Iowa State University Extension Offers New Advanced Grain Marketing Course AMES, Iowa -- ISU Extension is offering a new online short course called Advanced Grain Marketing for all Midwest farmers. This short course will help farmers understand, develop and implement better grain marketing practices to enhance their financial well-being. "AGM can be thought of as a hybrid between a marketing club and a marketing class," said Tim Eggers, ISU extension field ag economist. The AGM short course will help farmers with their marketing plans, by explaining marketing strategies through readings, assignments, online dialogue, learner reflection and application of materials. Participation in the course can occur anywhere at any time of the day or night wherever there is Internet access. Students should emerge from AGM with a completed marketing plan that they understand. "We want Midwest farmers to understand that the country relies upon them producing goods, and managing their farm is half the battle of being successful in their business," Eggers said. AGM builds on the Managing Risks and Profits tutorial developed by eight Land Grant Universities with financial support from eleven agricultural organizations. AGM is the first course of a series. The second course will focus on Financial Decision Making. For more information about AGM visit the Web site http://www.extension.iastate.edu/feci/AGM/. -30- af |
