12/11/01 Contacts: Commercial Manure Applicator Training Scheduled for Jan. 8 AMES, Iowa -- A satellite downlink training program for Iowans who want to be certified or recertified as commercial manure applicators is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Iowa State University Extension offices across the state. Angela Rieck-Hinz, who coordinates the program for ISU Extension Agronomy, said it will meet the requirement of three hours of annual continuing instruction commercial applicators need to maintain their manure applicator certification. The program is cosponsored by ISU Extension and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The workshop is free, but pre-registration is requested through ISU county extension offices. The workshop will cover rules, case studies, pumping, hauling and land application issues, equipment calibration and legal issues. Time is included in the program for call-in questions. Due to changes in the program rules and the implementation of a uniform certification deadline, commercial applicators are encouraged to attend the satellite downlink to receive the annual training requirements before the March 1 deadline, Rieck-Hinz said. More information about the commercial manure applicator program and the uniform deadline is available on the Web at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/immag/maccma.html. Commercial applicators also may contact the local DNR field office to schedule an appointment to the take the certification exam if they prefer the exam over the training workshop. -30- ml: isufarm |
