8/31/01 Contacts: Producers Invited to Learn about Current Environmental Issues AMES, Iowa -- Swine producers who are interested in learning more about current environmental issues that could affect their operations should plan to attend the Iowa Communications Network program, "Environmental Issues for Pork Producers," Sept. 10. The program, sponsored by Iowa Pork Industry Center, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Iowa Pork Producers Association, will provide information in three specific areas. These areas and their presenters are: "Animal Mortality Disposal Issues and Options," by ISU agricultural engineer Tom Glanville, "Five Things Pork Producers Need to Know About Manure Management," by Angie Rieck-Hinz of the ISU agronomy department, and "What's Next: The Future of Manure Management Regulations in Iowa," by Wayne Gieselman of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. ISU Extension field specialists Jerry Weiss and Roger Brummett coordinated the program, which will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. It originates from the Iowa State University campus. Program fee is $10 per person. Check with local ISU Extension county offices for possible preregistration and prepayment requirements.
