'Nutrient Management Minute' Wins National Communications
Award
A series of 60-second radio spots about nutrient management in Iowa has
been selected as the national communications radio program winner in a
contest sponsored by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents
(NACAA).
John Creswell, Iowa State University Extension nutrient management education
project coordinator, will attend the NACAA annual meeting in Albuquerque,
N.M., in August to accept the award.
"There were a lot of excellent entries this year, so winners can
be proud of their accomplishments. The degree of professionalism shown
was excellent. I looked at and listened to every entry and was extremely
impressed. I am sure the evaluators had a tough time in most categories,"
said Chuck Schwartau, a judge from the University of Minnesota Extension
Service.
The 'Nutrient Management Minute' radio program is part of the work of
the Nutrient Management Education Project (NMEP), funded by the Iowa Department
of Natural Resources through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency under the Federal Nonpoint Source Management Program (Section 319
of the Clean Water Act). The NMEP provides Iowans with information on
how they can work to improve water quality in Iowa's lakes, rivers and
streams by properly applying nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus.
The NMEP was organized in December 1999 to recommend and support the development
and marketing of research-based educational materials and programs focused
on improving water quality in Iowa.
All national finalists and winners names are posted on the NACAA homepage
at www.nacaa.com. Broadcast-quality
files of the Nutrient Management Minute are available at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Pages/markets/nmm.htm.
