Young Children Can Bring a Big Person to 4-H Camp

AMES, Iowa -- Children ages 6 to 9 can try new things away from home while they discover their world at the 2001 4-H Camp. Bring a Big Person Camp, designed for youngsters to bring an adult to camp and discover new things outside of the comfort of their homes, is just one of several sessions offered at this year's 4-H camp.

"This camp is a great transition for first-time campers," said Donna MacNeir, manager of the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center near Madrid. "An adult can be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or foster parent."

This year's 4-H camp theme is Discover Your World. A variety of camps, including Bring a Big Person Camp, are available to youths in kindergarten through high school as well as adults.

4-H Camp, held at the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center, begins in early June and runs throughout the summer. Early bird registration is due May 15; a late fee will be charged after that date.

The American Camping Association accredits the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center. Iowa State University Extension staff members conduct the sessions with the help of professionals and students.

For detailed information about the various camp sessions as well as registration, contact the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center, 1991 Peach Ave., Madrid, Iowa 50156; phone (515) 795-3338 or email ia4hctr@iastate.edu.
