9/21/00 Contacts: Jackson County Forestry Field Day Set AMES, Iowa - Iowans interested in learning more about their woodland resources have an opportunity to learn firsthand at several forestry field days scheduled in October, including one in Jackson County on Oct. 17. "Topics covered at the field days include improvement techniques for woodland resources and instructions about tree resource expansions," said Paul Wray, Iowa State University Extension forestry specialist. "The talks will vary depending on the local needs for the area." The Oct. 17 program begins at 1 p.m. at the Leo Reistroffer Tree Farm. To get to the field day drive west of Preston on Highway 64 for two miles to Highway 113, then drive north on Highway 113 to Country Road Z20. Other field days will be available throughout the state on these dates and locations: Oct. 3, Lee County; Oct. 4, Butler County; Oct. 5, Fayette County, Tree Farm Field Day; Oct. 6, Polk County; Oct. 10, Allamakee County and Oct. 13, Adams County. The field day program is designed for private woodland owners, public land managers, forestry consultants and service providers or anyone interested in forestry issues. "You will become more knowledgeable about how to manage tree resources, and you will meet resource professionals and other woodland owners," Wray said. The program is sponsored by ISU Extension, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and county conservation boards. For more information on the field days, contact Wray at (515) 294-1168 or your local county extension office. |
